If you’re looking to build a career in finance, audit, or risk management and want real hands‑on experience while gaining a recognised qualification, our Internal Audit & Risk Apprenticeship could be the perfect opportunity for you. At Kirklees Council, you’ll join a highly professional team that provides independent assurance on the Council’s governance, internal controls and risk management arrangements.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Supporting colleagues with audits by gathering evidence, testing controls, documenting findings, and preparing working papers.
  • Taking ownership of your own audit tasks as you progress, helping identify real issues and contributing to improvement recommendations.
  • Carrying out financial assessments of contractors and suppliers.
  • Coordinating Freedom of Information (FOI) requests for the Risk Service and Finance Team.
  • Working collaboratively with teams across Risk, including Customer Standards, Insurance and Fraud.
  • Supporting the smooth running of the service through accurate records, documents, and administrative tasks.
