Position Overview
Temporary contract until 31st July 2027, term time only plus 2 weeks, required to start 5th October 2026. The children, staff and governors of West Cornforth Primary School wish to appoint a teaching assistant to work in our Early Years Provision. Key Responsibilities
The role is rewarding, interesting and varied. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to plan activities, support and teach individuals, small groups and whole classes. They will join a team of dedicated, hard‑working individuals who strive for high standards for all of our children. The candidate will build and maintain positive relationships with all children, staff and parents.
Qualifications & Requirements
Applicants must have excellent time‑keeping skills, be able to work as part of a team, and have good written and verbal skills. The ability to converse at ease with customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English is essential. Applicants must hold a qualification that meets the approved ‘full and relevant’ criteria for Early Years qualifications and inclusion in staffing ratios.
Compensation and Working Hours
Salary: £26,403 – £28,598 (Pro‑Rata). Pay is calculated on term‑time only plus two additional weeks:
- Number of ‘teaching’ weeks – 38 weeks
- Public (bank) holidays – 1.6 weeks (8 days)
- Two additional weeks, inclusive of CPD – 2 weeks
- Individual leave entitlement – 5.4 weeks (27 days) or 6.4 weeks (32 days)
Individual leave entitlement is calculated on the length of continuous service: employees with less than 5 years’ service receive 27 days annual leave; those with more than 5 years receive 32 days. For example:
- Employees with less than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 27 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 47 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
- Employees with more than 5 years’ service: 40 weeks (term time plus 2) + 32 days (annual leave) + 8 days (public holidays) = 48 weeks’ pay, to be paid in 12 equal monthly instalments.
