Support Worker – Red Laithes Court / Havelock Street

Position offered by Kirklees Council – Adults & Health, Strategic Commissioning, Partnerships and Provider Services.

Location: Dewsbury and surrounding areas.

Hours: 1 x 35 hours and 1 x 28 hours.

Salary: 35 hours: £24,200 – £24,584, 28 hours: £19,360 – £19,667.

Grade: 5 (Permanent).

About the Service

At Red Laithes Court/Havelock Street we provide day services for people with learning disabilities who have a wide range of support needs. We work closely with physiotherapists, speech and language therapists, dieticians, and psychologists to make sure that the needs of people accessing our service are met in any way possible. We encourage people to be as independent and in control of their lives as possible, whilst offering a wide range of activities for service users.

Our main aim is to help people feel valued and to help them live life to their full potential. We ensure that their experience of using our service is positive, fun and meaningful. The service in 2026 will be moving to Heckmondwike to a new day centre for North Kirklees.

The Role

  • Support individuals with a wide range of tasks around movement & handling, personal care, supporting with exercise programmes, administration of medication / buccal rescue medication, and gastrostomy care.
  • Work with individuals on a 1‑1 basis, who have complex health/behaviours, promoting daily living skills, offering choices/guidance, and promoting dignity, respecting service users’ cultural beliefs, lifestyle, privacy and confidentiality.
  • Contribute to care plans and risk assessments, assist with transport to/from the individual’s home.

Requirements for This Role

  • Understanding of Adult Social Care.
  • Caring and flexible approach.
  • Hold the Care Certificate (or equivalent) or be prepared to complete this within 12 weeks of appointment.
  • Willingness to undertake specialist training.

Please be aware that the current minimum salary threshold for Support Worker roles needed to apply for a visa via the Skilled Worker route is £25,500. The hours of these jobs mean that they do not meet sponsorship requirements.
