Highfields And Its Staff

Highfields is a day service for adults with learning disabilities and complex needs. Service users come to our safe, informal, and friendly place to meet others and take part in activities that will help maintain their life skills. It also gives family members and carers a break from their caring roles.

The centre is warm and welcoming, with different bases for service users including Poppy, Bluebell, Jasmine and Daisy. All bases are decorated with colourful and engaging artwork with some being allergy free zones. We also have an amazing garden for service users, with a greenhouse, sensory walk, and seating area. Service users also enjoy the café and communal area for activities, and the sensory and therapy rooms available.

Our team are passionate about their work and having a positive impact in the day-to-day lives of our service users, promoting independence, and making a real difference. You will join a highly skilled staff team who support people to find hobbies they enjoy, while setting and achieving personal goals to take control of their lives. Many of our people require 1-1 support, and we ensure they have opportunities to be involved in activities that are meaningful to them.

The Role

You will support individuals with a wide range of tasks around movement & handling, personal care, support with exercise/physiotherapy programs, administration of medication / buccal rescue medication, and gastrostomy care, as well as supporting them in enjoying the activities the centre has to offer.

You will work with individuals on a 1-1 basis to promote daily living skills, offer choices and guidance whilst promoting dignity being respectful of cultural beliefs, privacy, and confidentiality at all times.

Your role will include contributing to care plans and risk assessments, assisting with transport to/from individual’s home and ensuring their visit to the centre is tailored to their requirements and interests.

Other Requirements For a Support Worker Are

  • An understanding of Adult Social Care
  • Caring and flexible approach
  • Hold the Care Certificate (or equivalent) or be prepared to complete this within 12 weeks of appointment
  • Willingness to undertake specialist training
