The Team
The Highways Public Realm Team are responsible for supporting the regeneration of our Town Centres by designing and implementing effective and innovative regeneration and highway improvement schemes.
We are looking for a Senior Engineer to support the development, design and delivery of a number of schemes, including key Blueprint projects within Huddersfield and Dewsbury where you’ll be designing schemes which will enhance the public space by creating safe, modern, vibrant, landscaped, and accessible streets within the town centres.

The Role
The role will focus on the effective design and delivery of projects which will enhance the public space by creating safe, modern, vibrant, landscaped, and accessible streets within the town centres.
- Supporting Principal Engineers with the management and design of a range of Town Centre focused highway schemes designed to improve the public realm that is on offer for all highway users, including those categorised as our most vulnerable road users group , and that improve the day to day movement of pedestrians, cyclists and other highway users.
- Preparation of works packages, estimates, bills of quantities, contract drawings and documentation where appropriate, and supervision of the highway schemes involved in
- Provide support with representing Highways in development of schemes across the Council including schemes generated from Blue Print proposals, Town Centre Initiatives, Public Art projects, Landscape and Play Street proposals and West Yorkshire Combined Authority schemes.
- Undertake the relevant duty holder’s role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, in particular, Designer,
- Liaise with and advise Council departments and partners relating to all traffic interaction on the highway.
- Support the assessment of potential impacts from proposed housing / commercial developments around our Town Centres and look for ways to ensure those developments blend in to and enhance our Towns.
- Supervision of Engineers and Apprentices within the team.
- Travel to and between sites requiring a full and valid driving licence and completion of a Kirklees Council driving assessment.
