Responsible to: The Lead Teacher of Visual Impairment at The Primary Additionally Resourced Provision at Dalton J I and N School and Head teacher: Mr Ian Richardson.
Summary: An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Additionally Resourced Provision for Children with a Visual Impairment at Dalton J I and N School.
Role scope: The successful candidate will work for 1 day a week supporting children with a visual impairment both within the provision at Dalton and also on outreach in homes, pre-school settings and mainstream schools from the ages of 0 - 11 years, across Kirklees. Children within The Provision and from across the authority are taught and supported by a combination of QTVIs, specialist VI ETAs, braille and large print technicians, habilitation specialists and family support workers. We are looking for a candidate who has completed their training to become a Qualified Teacher of Visual Impairment or someone who has experience of working in schools with children with a range of Special Educational Needs, with the desire to develop their skills specifically in the field of Visual Impairment.
The team is constantly evolving and developing their knowledge and there will be the opportunity to work alongside experienced ETAs and Qualified Teachers of Visual Impairment within The Provision to develop the skills and knowledge needed to work successfully within the team and with children in provision and on caseload with visual impairment.
Responsibilities:
- Be an enthusiastic and committed team player with a passion for optimising the learning experiences, progress and inclusion of children with additional needs and specifically visual impairment.
- Bring to the team an excellent working knowledge of the Primary curriculum. An interest in Art and/or Science is desirable.
- Be able to demonstrate a proven track-record of successfully supporting learners working below age related expectations.
- Have excellent time management skills and the ability to work on their own initiative and meet deadlines reliably.
- Perform the tasks and duties of a specialist teacher in line with the SEND Code of Practice, Children and Families Act 2014 and The Quality Standards for Specialist Teaching and Support Services for Visually Impaired Children.
- Provide tailored teaching and support for individual children and small groups within the Additionally Resourced Provision as directed by The Lead Teacher.
- Manage effectively, an assigned caseload of children with a visual impairment and provide specialist support and advice for children with visual impairment, their families and teaching staff within Kirklees educational settings.
