Do you enjoy working outdoors, engaging with communities and taking practical action to tackle environmental issues? This is a front‐line role supporting Kirklees Council's approach to environmental improvement, community engagement and compliance. Working as part of the Greenspace Action Team, you'll play a key part in preventing and addressing environmental anti‐social behaviour and supporting enforcement activity across the borough.
As a Community & Environmental Support Officer (Environmental Ranger), you'll provide a visible presence in neighbourhoods across Kirklees. You'll work directly with residents, businesses and partner teams to improve the local environment, respond to issues quickly and support investigations where enforcement action may be required. You will work as part of a team tackling personal, nuisance and environmental anti-social behaviour to improve the quality of life for all, across Kirklees. You will engage with individuals, groups and communities and undertake environmental improvement work. You will enjoy working in the outdoors and meeting a range of people from different backgrounds. You will have an eye for detail and will be able to work proactively with our communities to resolve potential issues before they arise. You will have excellent communication skills and experience of working to solve problems and achieve shared outcomes. This role sits alongside and works closely with Environmental Enforcement Officers, providing essential on‐the-ground support, intelligence and practical intervention.
What You'll Be Doing
- Undertaking environmental improvement and maintenance work to improve local streets and green spaces
- Providing a visible presence to deter environmental anti‐social behaviour
- Engaging with individuals and communities to promote environmental responsibility and positive behaviour
- Responding to reports of fly‐tipping, littering, graffiti and other environmental concerns
- Gathering information and evidence to support enforcement investigations and potential prosecutions
- Working collaboratively with Enforcement Officers, Highways and other internal services
- Maintaining accurate records, notes and reports in line with council procedures

- Clearing fly‐tipped waste safely and efficiently
- Searching for identifying evidence
- Supporting enforcement case development and legal action
What We're Looking For
- You'll be confident, practical and community‐minded, with the judgement to know when to educate, support or elevate concerns.
- Experience working in a public-facing environment
- The ability to work unaccompanied and with minimal supervision, organise tasks and prioritise workloads
- An understanding of issues affecting local communities and the environment
- Good literacy, numeracy and IT skills to maintain accurate records and reports
- Physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in all weathers
- A flexible approach to working, including evenings, weekends and public holidays
- A full driving licence and ability to drive council vehicles (e.g. vans or 4x4s)
- Willingness to undertake a medical assessment where required
