Position Details: Permanent, Grade 14, 1 role, 37 hours per week.
Salary: £51,356 - £53,460 per annum, plus an additional retention payment of £4,000 pa (pro rata for part‑time), payable in December and June after 6 months employment and successful completion of probation. The retention payment is reviewed after 6 months.
Role Overview: The Investment Zone Planning Lead is responsible for producing Development Plan Documents and related planning guidance, supporting the Council's Masterplan for the area and broader Huddersfield Town Centre regeneration objectives. The role involves engaging with planning and regeneration teams, collaborating with Development Management colleagues on applications and pre‑apps, and working cross‑service with strategy officers on policy issues such as economy, retail, housing, transport, active travel, green/blue infrastructure and the environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Produce Development Plan Documents and support planning guidance for the Investment Zone and Huddersfield Masterplan.
- Engage with the Planning Policy Group, regeneration and business teams to integrate planning policy and strategy.
- Provide advice and guidance on applications and pre‑applications for schemes around Huddersfield.
- Support the development of a town‑centre framework and specific planning policy tasks such as master planning, design, station‑to‑stadium corridor, and related town‑centre policies.
- Promote a culture of performance management, continuous improvement and achievement across the service.
- Ensure effective communication of service objectives, future plans, and Council values to the team.
- Develop partnership working to deliver joint ambitions for the Investment Zone and manage projects to timetable, within budget, and with a positive impact on the lives of people in Kirklees.
- Lead and develop leadership skills, fostering a positive working environment that maximises employee contribution.
