Hours and Working Weeks: A minimum working week of 30 hours with start time between 07.45am and 08.15am each day and a finish time between 15.30 and 16.15.

The children, staff and Governors at Birkby Infant and Nursery School are seeking to appoint a highly skilled, experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated person who can make a significant contribution to the administration team that ensures our caring, happy and ambitious school is run efficiently and effectively in a happy and positive manner. “Together We Can”

The successful applicant will:

  • Have a minimum of 3 years office‑based admin experience (preferably in a school office but not essential).
  • Can work independently and as part of a small team.
  • Be flexible, caring and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Have excellent time‑keeping and management skills.
  • Have a good sense of humour.
  • Be willing to work with children with a wide range of additional needs.
  • Hold a Paediatric First Aid certificate or be willing to obtain this.
  • Can ensure confidentiality and compliance with statutory and non‑statutory requirements at all times.
  • Can deliver an effective and efficient administrative service across the school.
  • Can ensure all correspondence and communications are produced to the highest standard within appropriate deadlines.
  • Is able to support the Headteacher/SBM where required, including receiving visitors and phone calls.
  • Is able to ensure queries and concerns of parents are dealt with promptly and professionally and logged appropriately.
  • Is able to, with direction from the Headteacher/SBM, ensure key communications and school success stories are shared and celebrated with all staff, students, parents and visitors.
  • Is able to administer trips and visits.
  • Is familiar with attendance procedures in school and is familiar with the Arbor system or similar.
  • Can ensure DBS checks are undertaken for all staff and volunteers in line with the latest guidelines.
  • Good knowledge and use of IT systems including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • Ability to carry out general administrative skills and to deal with a variety of tasks such as filing, typing, distribution of post, etc.
  • Experience of working in a busy environment and of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Ability to comply with strict regulations about confidentiality and behave according to the appropriate protocols.
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organisational skills, prioritise own workload and work to deadlines and under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • An understanding and commitment to equality and diversity.
