Norristhorpe Junior & Infant School is seeking to appoint a dedicated, enthusiastic and caring Educational Teaching Assistant (Early Intervention Lead) to join our team from September 2026. This is a newly created role. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in our Lower School, supporting the early identification of additional and special educational needs, addressing barriers to learning, and ensuring every child gets the very best start to their education. This is a permanent position, working 9:00am – 3:30pm (including a 1-hour lunch break).

About the Role

  • Work with young children to identify early gaps in development and learning.
  • Plan and deliver targeted, high-quality intervention programmes tailored to individual needs.
  • Support pupils to make progress from their starting points, recognising that adapted provision may be required.
  • Identify and reduce barriers to learning such as attendance, engagement, confidence, wellbeing and SEND.
  • Work closely with teachers, SEND and pastoral teams, and families to provide coordinated support.
  • Monitor progress, maintain clear records, and contribute to reviews of impact.
  • Liaise with external professionals where appropriate.

The Ideal Candidate Will

  • Have experience working in a school setting, ideally within Early Years or Lower School.
  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of early child development and SEND identification.
  • Have knowledge of a variety of communication approaches such as intensive interaction and the use of visuals.
  • Understand sensory needs and their impact on learning and regulation.
  • Have knowledge of the EYFS Framework and KS1 curriculum, including early reading and phonics.
  • Be nurturing, proactive and solutions-focused.
  • Have high expectations while maintaining a caring and inclusive approach.
  • Be skilled at building positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Have experience delivering or supporting interventions.
  • Be committed to safeguarding, inclusion and pupil wellbeing.
  • Be willing to go the extra mile to ensure the best outcomes for every child.
