Kirklees Council are advertising this role on behalf of The Pivot Academy. Do you believe in the transformative power of education? At Pivot, we ensure you have the time and support to shape futures. Join our mission to inspire and empower learners, and make a lasting impact on their lives.

At Pivot we believe children deserve better. In our academies we teach and support children and young people from Key Stages 2 – 5 who have been excluded from school, for whom mainstream education is simply not working, or those with an EHCP who require a specialist placement. Every day our teams do incredible work, making a huge difference to some complex and challenging children, many of whom come to us with some traumatic backgrounds.

We are currently seeking a dedicated and committed professional to join the Pivot 6 team as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL). At Pivot 6, we offer specialist support for KS4 children who have been permanently excluded from mainstream school. Our aim in Pivot 6 is to support learners academically and socially to prepare them for transition back into mainstream school.

This is a key role at Pivot 6 in leading the responsibility for child protection and wider safeguarding within our provision. You will work closely with the Lead Social Worker and DSL, Deputy Head, teachers and the pastoral lead to provide advice and support to young people, their parents or carers and at times to schools and other agencies.

As the DSL, you will respond to and address any safeguarding concerns raised including making referrals to statutory agencies. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of working contextually to safeguard children and promote wellbeing. We welcome applications from trained Social Workers; however, this is not essential to the role.

Our Pivot 6 site is based in Bradley, Huddersfield, however, a significant number of our learners are based in Bradford and therefore regular travel within the city would be required. We are committed to safeguarding our young people and promoting the welfare of children and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure Barring Service check and appropriate referencing. During the shortlisting process, Pivot will carry out an online search on shortlisted candidates as part of its due diligence.
