Job Title: SEND Support Worker

Salary: FTE £24,550 – £24,850 (pro rata for hours and weeks)

Location: Multiple Locations

Hours and Weeks per Year: 18 hrs / 38 weeks per year

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the SEND Department, Student Experience, at Kirklees College. The position of SEND Support Worker will provide exceptional student support across all curriculum areas and college sites.

Responsibilities

  • Work with our most vulnerable SEND (Special Education Needs and Disabilities) students to support their learning, achievement and progression into adulthood both in and out of the classroom environment.
  • Develop supportive relationships with students while remaining professional and deliver strategies to promote/reinforce student self-esteem.
  • Provide physical and personal care support as required.
  • Work under the direction of the class tutor and use your own initiative.
  • Deliver approaches to support students with different learning needs and help them become independent.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum Level 2 qualification in literacy and numeracy (e.g. GCSE English and Maths at grade A*-C) and a minimum Level 2 qualification relevant to the post.
  • Experience of working with young people in an educational capacity.
  • Understanding of EHCPs and SEND.
  • Knowledge of different learning needs and strategies to support independence.
  • Excellent communication and digital skills.
  • Ability to converse at ease with members of the public and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
