We are looking for a friendly, approachable and enthusiastic receptionist to cover for staff sickness. This is a temporary 3 month position although this may be extended. Our reception team ensures our patients are directed to the most appropriate service or clinician. The hours of work are 25 hours per week, 5 hours per day on a rota basis between 7:45am and 18:45pm. There may be an occasion where you would be required to work extra hours to cover annual leave or other absences.
Main duties of the job:
- Reception duties, including answering calls, booking appointments, sign posting patients, dealing with prescription requests and all patient queries.

Kirkham Health Centre is a well-established, patient centred GP surgery situated in the market town of Kirkham within the Fylde Coast area. We have a patient population of 9,800 patients, covering a mixed urban and rural area. We own our own building and have an extensive primary care team comprising of 4 GP Partners, 1 salaried GP, 3 ANPs, 1 Paramedic, 4 Practice Nurses, 1 HCA, 1 Trainee Nursing Associate, Clinical Pharmacist, Pharmacy technician, Social Prescriber, Mental Health Practitioner and a supportive Administration and Reception team. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming practice who are committed to delivering high quality care to our patients. Our triage system coordinated by our Advanced Nurse Practitioner team allows for excellent access to services. We are active members of our local Primary Care Network, perform well in QOF and are rated 'Good' by the CQC.
Job responsibilities:
- Greeting patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner
- Managing appointment bookings and cancellations
- Handling incoming calls and responding to queries
- Maintaining accurate patient records using clinical systems
- Processing online triage requests
- Liaising with clinicians and other healthcare professionals
- Ensuring confidentiality and data protection at all times
- Supporting general administrative duties within the practice
- Keeping the reception and patient waiting areas clean and tidy
Qualifications:
- GCSE grade A-C (or equivalent) in English and Maths
Experience:
- Experience of working in a customer facing role
- Experience of working in a GP Practice
- Experience of using EMIS or similar clinical system
- Experience of using Microsoft Office applications
Knowledge and skills:
- IT literate
- Awareness of Data Protection and Confidentiality
