Kirby Road Surgery have an exciting opportunity for one receptionist to join our team! We are a friendly and diverse team consisting of GPs, Nurse Prescribers, Practice Nurses, Clinical Pharmacists, Paramedic and Healthcare Assistants, and we work together to deliver quality healthcare services to our patients.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, staff, colleagues, health service professionals and others. You will be the first point of contact for our patients.

About us

Kirby Road Surgery has a patient list of approximately 8,500. Our practice is situated close to the town centre of Dunstable, with access to a staff car park and local transport links. We are looking for one part time candidate.

Job responsibilities

This is a part time role. The hours are 08:00-18:30 Monday and 08:00-18:30 Friday. You are required to provide a high quality, professional reception and administrative service to patients, doctors, staff, colleagues, health service professionals and others. You will be responsible for a range of duties, including but not limited to:

  • Greeting patients and visitors to the practice.
  • Book in, amend and cancel patient appointments in line with practice appointments policy and procedures, ensuring optimum efficiency of the appointment system.
  • Receive and accurately record requests for home visits.
  • Ensure the appointment system is up-to-date.
  • Respond and/or redirect all patient/visitor and outside organisation requests accordingly.
  • Explain practice arrangements and formal requirements to new patients and temporary residents, ensure related procedures are completed to a high standard.
  • The recording of new patients onto the computer system.
  • Advise patients of relevant charges for private services, accept payment and issue receipts documenting services provided.
  • Produce repeat prescriptions according to practice procedures and ensure timely distribution of completed prescriptions.
  • Ensure all letters provided by patients by hand are recorded on the clinical system and put to the scanning team to process.

Person Specification

Experience

Experience of working within the NHS or in primary care would be an advantage but it is not mandatory, as training will be provided. Good spoken and written English skills. Proficient with computers and Microsoft packages.
