Role Purpose
The Mechanical Cx Engineer is responsible for commissioning activities on a specific construction project. Activities will vary and be coordinated with the Project Manager. The engineer will ensure technical design aligns with onsite installation and commissioning, fulfilling Kirby Group\’s vision, mission, and values.
Project Mechanical Cx Engineer’s Roles & Responsibilities
EHS
- Read and understand the EHS plan.
Quality
- Create Test Packs with the Document Controller.
- Develop and update test tracking matrices.
- Verify receipt of equipment and materials.
- Attend, supervise, and record FATs as per ITP.
- Coordinate and record SATs execution.
- Witness on-site testing.
- Conduct pre-test and snagging walks, ensuring compliance with design.
- Track snag closures and report progress.
- Ensure Test Packs are ready for third-party inspection.
- Lead third-party walk-downs.
Planning
- Understand project scheduling and labor loading.
- Integrate commissioning schedule into overall project schedule.
- Update commissioning tracker.
Business Development
- Prepare technical scope summaries for approval.
- Build relationships with clients and designers.
- Report potential leads for new work.
Engineering
- Clarify technical queries via RFI system.
- Tag and identify devices on site.
- Attend technical and commissioning meetings.
- Assist in developing and implementing commissioning plans.
- Manage vendors and contractors.
- Track commissioning activities and snag closures.
- Verify and certify commissioning activities.
- Manage production of O&M manuals.
- Develop and deliver client training.
- Coordinate subcontractors’ work.
- Collaborate with design and project teams on technical issues.
- Assist in producing progress reports.
- Maintain engineering deliverable trackers.
- Conduct weekly site inspections and quality checks.
Communications
- Develop and issue weekly reports and trackers.
- Participate in weekly engineering meetings.
Risk
- Highlight and log project risks.
Commercial
- Understand project profit and variation logs.
- Advise on potential cost impacts.
HR
- Mentor junior engineers.
- Attend CPD workshops.
- Maintain information security per ISMS.
Minimum Requirements
- 3rd level qualification in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- At least 4 years of project engineering experience with a mechanical contractor.
- Experience delivering small to medium mechanical projects.
- Knowledge of health, safety, and environmental procedures.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent record-keeping and administrative skills.
- Leadership and influencing abilities.
- Problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Process-driven with a focus on EHS and Quality systems.
- Mentoring capability for junior staff.
