About Kirby Group Engineering: Kirby Group Engineering is an international multi-disciplinary engineering services contractor and leading provider of high-value engineering services to a number of ‘blue chip’ companies. Operating across Ireland, the UK, Europe and South Africa, Kirby has become the engineering service provider of choice in growth segments such as pharmaceuticals, data centres and power transmission and distribution. Our culture is innovative, collaborative and performance focused. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to grow and develop in a company committed to developing talent and rewarding performance.

The Role: This is a leadership position with real scope. You’ll oversee civil engineering strategy, drive consistency across projects, and lead teams delivering complex infrastructure from tender through to completion. You’ll guide how civil is done — not just how it’s delivered.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Leadership & Strategy: Own and evolve civil engineering processes, procedures, and strategy across the business. Build, manage and develop high-performing teams. Create a collaborative, accountable culture where people can do their best work. Provide technical oversight and direction across multiple projects.
  • Tender & Pre-Construction: Lead the civil input into bids and tenders, shaping solutions from the outset. Oversee preliminary designs (earthworks, drainage, access roads, structures). Define risk profiles across ground conditions, flooding, utilities and environmental factors. Drive alignment between civil, electrical, and commercial teams. Influence programme strategy, resources, and delivery approach.
  • Design & Delivery: Manage design consultants and ensure outputs meet specification and client expectations. Act as the key interface with clients, contractors and internal stakeholders. Ensure designs are commercially sound and optimised for delivery. Lead coordination between disciplines to avoid friction later in the project.
  • Construction Oversight: Provide strategic oversight during construction — guiding, not micromanaging. Support teams through scope changes, risk management, and problem solving. Ensure standards, compliance, and quality are consistently met. Lead site audits and critical decision-making at key stages.
  • Project Close-Out: Oversee as-built documentation and H&S file completion. Drive lessons learned across the business — not just filed away, but actually used.

What You’ll Bring: Strong background in civil engineering within infrastructure, utilities, or energy. Proven leadership experience managing teams and influencing delivery. Commercial awareness — you understand how design decisions impact cost and programme. Experience across the full project lifecycle (tender to handover). Ability to operate at both strategic and technical levels without getting lost in either.

Why This Role: Kirby Group Engineering delivers complex engineering solutions across Europe, with a strong reputation in power and renewables. The work is technically demanding, but the real difference is the scale of ownership — you’re trusted to make decisions and backed to deliver them. This isn’t about stepping into a rigid function. It’s about building something better, with the authority to do it. If you’re ready to move from senior engineer to someone who genuinely shapes how projects are delivered, this is the step.
