Role Purpose:
The EHS Advisor will provide Environment, Health and Safety guidance while working with the project team. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining the Kirby management system for the project, coordinating all EHS matters within various Project Management Teams, and reporting constructively to the Project Manager. The role may require full-time positioning on a project or working on various projects, with frequent travel and potential overnight stays.
Key Functions of the EHS Advisor:
- Provide advice, guidance, support, and instruction in all EHS matters to management, safety representatives, and employees.
- Be proactive in all matters concerning the role.
- Identify training needs and carry out training as required.
- Audit and inspect projects, preparing achievable corrective and preventive action plans.
- Report on business EHS risks, KPIs, and trends accurately, recommending constructive actions for continuous improvements.
- Ensure incidents are reported and investigations are thorough to identify root causes and corrective actions.
- Update and ensure compliance of Site EHS Plans, RAMS, and other associated documents.
EHS Advisor Responsibilities:
- Reports to EHS Manager, Site Managers/Supervisors, and Project Manager.
- Conversant with Kirby safety statement, environment manual, risk assessments, legislation, and procedures.
- Conduct internal audits and site inspections, recommending corrective actions and documenting findings.
- Prepare project-specific EHS Plans, inductions, and Risk Assessment Method Statements (RAMS).
- Ensure project-specific EHS Plans and RAMS are up to date and communicated to all relevant parties.
- Set up necessary site safety files and ensure compliance with legislation and regulations.
- Review Contractor Appointments to ensure only competent contractors are used.
- Introduce and implement measures aimed at preventing incidents at work.
- Report incidents and areas of concern to the relevant parties.
- Carry out incident investigations and recommend methods for future avoidance.
- Audit the company site safety file and ensure regular assessments of hazards/risks.
- Prepare Monthly KPI Reports and issue records of training to HR.
- Attend regional EHS Coordination Meetings and internal/external site meetings as required.
- Implement and promote the company Incentive Scheme on all projects.
- Monitor PPE usage and advise site management on protective equipment.
- Issue non-conformances, commendations, and disciplinary warnings as required.
Necessary Requirements of the EHS Advisor:
- 3+ years’ experience in a similar industry.
- Knowledge of HV Substation projects preferred.
- Diploma to NFQ 8 in Occupational H&S.
- Certificate to NFQ 6 in Environmental Management.
- Safe Pass, Train the Trainer, First Aid, Training Instructor.
- Internal ISO14000 and ISO45000 system auditor.
- Experience with Construction Regulations and CDM roles.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work with Kirby/client/main contractor Safety and Project teams.
- Proactive in identifying positive and negative acts.
- Ability to lead and coordinate incident investigations.
