A group of engineering companies based in Hampshire is expanding their design capability and seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team in Chandler’s Ford. With a long-standing reputation for delivering high-performance pump systems, they are investing in innovation, product development, and quality engineering processes. This Mechanical Design Engineer role offers hands-on involvement across the full product lifecycle - from concept design to manufacturing handover - supporting both new product introduction and continuous improvement across the product range.

You’ll take ownership of mechanical design activity, ensuring compliance with CE/UKCA standards while producing accurate specifications, drawings, and documentation. The role also includes leading small to medium projects and supporting the design and build of mechanical components, assemblies, and lifting structures.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design and detail mechanical assemblies for diesel and electric-driven pump units
  • Produce BOMs, technical drawings, and specifications to international and internal standards
  • Create designs for castings, machined parts, fabricated structures, and sheet metal components
  • Ensure lifting structures and support frames meet safety standards and are compliant with CE/UKC
  • Lead NPI projects through concept, testing, and production handover stages
  • Liaise with production, suppliers, and internal departments to resolve issues and improve efficiency
  • Support the development of cost-effective, manufacturable, and high-quality solutions
  • Maintain design records and documentation in accordance with QA and engineering procedures
Skills & Experience Required:
  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer in a manufacturing or engineering environment
  • Strong 3D CAD skills - SolidWorks preferred (with SolidWorks PDM Pro or similar)
  • Sound knowledge of FEA, stress analysis, and mechanical systems (bearings, shaft design etc.)
  • Experience designing castings (aluminium/iron), machined parts, and welded/fabricated structures
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple projects
  • Confident communicator who collaborates well across Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain functions
  • Qualified to Degree or HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or similar experience
Desirable Experience:
  • Background in centrifugal or positive displacement pump design
  • Knowledge of diesel engine installations and low-voltage DC electrical systems
  • Familiarity with injection moulding or vacuum-formed plastic components
