Tasks and Qualifications:
Main Job Objectives:

  • Understand / develop and produce, Health and Safety Design risk assessments for automated solutions to BS EN ISO 12100.
  • Maintain good relationships with all internal and external customers, through provision of a high-quality service.
  • Maintain the Dematic image as a top quality, professional company by adopting an honest, professional and attentive approach.

Specific Responsibilities – Electrical Design:

  • Interpret design input information to produce control system designs.
  • Ensure systems designed and supplied are CE Compliant to the Machinery Directive.
  • Produce design and manufacturing programmes.
  • Produce all associated documentation including, but not limited to, design calculations, design specifications, operation and maintenance manuals, and test specifications.
  • Design and produce electrical layout and schematic drawings using appropriate CAD tools.
  • Procurement of electrical control panels and liaise with suppliers on technical matters.
  • Procurement of electrical installation services and liaise with suppliers on technical matters.
  • Liaise with electrical installation supervisors and subcontractors.

General Responsibilities:

  • Liaise with Project Sales and Project Engineers during project phase.
  • Liaise with Project Managers, Customer and sub-contractors during order execution phase.
  • Liaise with purchasing departments.
  • Provide technical information to any department so entitled, i.e. Mechanical Design, Projects Sales, Service, Spares.
  • Maintain and use wherever possible, standard product information for the execution of orders.
  • Where necessary to develop special and new standard solutions to suit specific projects and new markets.
  • Innovate wherever possible to improve our delivered product to the end customer (e.g. reduced price, reduced time-scale, improved functionality).
  • Provide technical backup to the service team as required, including bug fixes, enhancements and modifications.
  • Maintain and improve upon personal skills related to the position, through experience and training.
  • Comply with the company policy as defined in the Staff Handbook, Safety Manual, and Quality Assurance Manual.
  • Promote personal and business continuous improvement and development of processes to achieve improved time cost and quality or project delivery.

Knowledge & Experience Required:

  • Proven experience as Controls Hardware Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer or similar role.
  • Essential: HNC/HND in Electrical Engineering.
  • Desirable: Educated to degree level in a relevant discipline.
  • Extensive proven hands-on experience working within an industrial automation environment.
  • Experience working with E-Plan, AutoCAD, MS Package.
  • Advanced understanding of PLC, SCADA development tools.
  • A working understanding of Electrical and Electronic technical manuals & drawings.
  • Good understanding of distributed control systems and the principles of industrial networks used to connect and integrate control systems.
  • Understanding and use of relevant design requirements such as the Machinery Directive and its harmonised standards, with experience in FEM and BS standards preferred.

Role will require travel (up to 20%) to customer sites within the Northern European region and occasional travel to other Dematic offices or facilities in the undertaking of duties.
