You will be supporting an established chemical and process manufacturing operator that is investing in the long-term future of a key production site. This role sits at the centre of that plan, owning everything from the control system layer through to site IT, with genuine input into capital projects that protect output and product integrity going forward. Why This Role Stands Out Sole subject matter expert across the full control and operational technology estate - a site-defining role, not one of many Direct line into the site's long-term investment and capital projects plan, not just day-to-day support Real influence over safety systems, alarm philosophy, and cybersecurity standards A stable, established manufacturing environment producing critical products for its market, with genuine investment in your development Contributory pension, annual bonus, private medical cover, and a strong holiday allowance Key Responsibilities Acting as the site's technical authority for control systems and operational technology/IT infrastructure Making controlled programming changes to the distributed control systems and programmable logic controllers under proper change and commissioning discipline Setting and maintaining site standards for alarms, overrides, cybersecurity, and compliance with relevant functional safety standards Owning the site's protective systems, including interlocks, trips, and safety integrity level rated functions Maintaining infrastructure from controllers and networks through to historians, servers, and backups Investigating plant performance issues through structured root cause analysis Supporting the Engineering Manager with control-system and IT budget planning Acting as subject matter expert on capital projects touching the control and operational technology scope Bringing local IT and wider corporate digital functions together under one coordinated approach Driving a safety-first culture aligned to UK legislation and site safety, health, and environmental requirements Requirements Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Control Systems, or Instrumentation and Electronics Experience with ownership of instrumentation and control systems Experience across distributed control system software and hardware architecture, including virtualised environments with replication and failover, is beneficial Hands-on programmable logic controller exposure across platforms such as Allen-Bradley and Siemens, plus supervisory control and data acquisition systems and ladder logic Functional safety certification to relevant standards, or a strong willingness to work towards it Working knowledge of, or interest in developing, operational technology cybersecurity practices and management systems A structured problem-solver, with familiarity with 5-Why, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies preferred Valid right to work in the UK required - sponsorship is not available for this role How to Apply Please send your CV or contact details to the recruitment contact provided in the original communication.
