With an impressive portfolio of projects exceeding £200 million, they are expanding their engineering team and seeking a Senior Electrical Design Engineer to be based in Sunderland.
This role offers exposure to technically challenging and high-impact projects, from concept through to commissioning, across a range of regulated and complex environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the technical integrity and compliance of all electrical engineering deliverables within scope, schedule, and safety parameters.
- Lead and coordinate cross-discipline collaboration between technical, process, and design teams as well as subcontractors and project managers.
- Act as the primary technical liaison with clients—providing clarity on scope, gathering feedback, and supporting risk mitigation.
- Support proposals and bids by contributing to:
- Conceptual electrical system designs
- Load schedules
- Component specifications
- Resource and time estimates
Required Qualifications & Experience
- HNC (or higher) in Electrical and/or Controls Engineering.
- Experience leading engineering teams within a contract or project-focused environment.
- Strong understanding of electrical/control systems for material handling in harsh industrial conditions.
- Familiarity with mechanical processes and their integration into broader systems.
- Deep knowledge of electrical distribution, control, and protection system design.
- Sound understanding of design risk assessments, safety legislation, and compliance standards.
- Strong communication skills and confidence in client-facing roles and technical meetings.
- Awareness of ATEX standards and hazardous area equipment selection is advantageous.
- Experience in value engineering and supporting commercial decision-making during the design process.
