An established engineering organisation is seeking a Principal HV Substation Engineer to provide technical leadership across transmission and distribution substation projects. The role covers concept, detailed design, and construction support, working closely with clients, suppliers, and multi-discipline project teams.
Location: Manchester, UK
Responsibilities:
- Lead development of conceptual and detailed Protection & Control designs
- Interpret client specifications and produce technical documentation and Bills of Quantities
- Review and technically align supplier quotations
- Oversee design calculations, drawings, and secondary system designs
- Carry out design checks and manage design risk assessments
- Supervise engineers and external designers to ensure quality and timely delivery
- Support construction teams with substation automation and secondary systems expertise
- Interface with wider disciplines to ensure buildable and compliant designs
- Mentor and develop junior engineers
Qualifications:
- Proven experience delivering HV transmission and distribution substation projects
- Strong knowledge of protection schemes, substation automation, and secondary systems
