A leading independent agency representing many of the world's most acclaimed writers, directors, literary estates, designers and creative talent across film, television, theatre and new media is seeking an experienced Legal & Business Affairs professional to join its team. Our client combines a long-standing reputation for excellence with a commitment to discovering and nurturing the next generation of creative voices. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced business affairs professional or media lawyer to play a key role in supporting agents and clients across film, television and theatre. The title and level of responsibility will reflect the successful candidate's experience.

The Role

The successful candidate will provide business and legal affairs support to agents in reviewing, advising on and negotiating a broad range of industry agreements. For more senior applicants, there will be an opportunity to help shape the strategic direction, processes and best practices of the Business Affairs function. The work will primarily involve film and television agreements, including:

  • Book and script option agreements
  • Format option agreements
  • Writing agreements
  • Directing agreements
  • Producer agreements

About You

You will be a qualified lawyer or experienced business affairs professional with substantial media industry experience and a strong understanding of the legal and commercial frameworks within which creative talent operates.

Essential Experience & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of contract, commercial and intellectual property law
  • Knowledge of the film, television, theatre and publishing industries
  • Experience negotiating and drafting employment and talent agreements
  • Good working knowledge of film and television writing, directing and option agreements
  • Knowledge of UK guild agreements and commissioning practices across broadcasters and SVOD platforms
  • Experience successfully negotiating and concluding deals, gained within a law firm, broadcaster, production company or talent agency
  • Awareness of the wider commercial and industry context affecting talent negotiations

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of UK broadcaster Terms of Trade
  • Familiarity with US guild agreements, including WGA and DGA frameworks
  • Experience negotiating theatre agreements, including licensing, commissions and creative engagements
  • Strategic management experience
