A leading independent rights management business operating within the theatrical and entertainment sector is seeking an experienced and commercially astute lawyer to lead its Legal & Business Affairs function. This is a senior in-house appointment offering broad strategic responsibility across intellectual property management, commercial contracting, rights enforcement and wider corporate legal matters.
The successful candidate will work closely with senior leadership and play a key role in supporting the continued growth and development of a highly respected rights-focused organisation. The role is ideally suited to an experienced commercial, IP or entertainment lawyer who combines strong technical expertise with a pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach and is comfortable operating autonomously in a fast-moving entrepreneurial environment.
Applicants are likely to be qualified solicitors in England & Wales (or equivalent) with significant experience in intellectual property, licensing and commercial contracts, ideally gained within theatre, entertainment, media or another IP-led sector.
Candidates should demonstrate:
- Strong expertise in copyright law and intellectual property protection, particularly within the UK and US
- Experience negotiating and managing complex commercial agreements
- Experience handling contentious contractual matters and rights enforcement issues
- Strong commercial judgement and risk assessment capability
- Excellent stakeholder management and negotiation skills
- The ability to operate independently and manage a broad workload autonomously
- A proactive, resilient and commercially focused mindset
- Experience supporting acquisition transactions, rights licensing across multiple territories and media, and managing external litigation counsel would be advantageous
