Our team (NALO – Noise, Air Quality, Lighting and Odour) of 30+ multidisciplinary environmental consultants, survey, assess and advise on a wide range of specific situations, from small scale planning applications right through to acting as expert witness at hearings and inquiries. We typically undertake surveys then use innovative computer-based modelling techniques to predict noise, air quality, wind, odour, lighting or daylight/sunlight levels, and assess acoustic performance. Our clients include UK MoD, Sainsbury’s, Amazon (Projects in UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland & Egypt), together with a variety of Local Authorities and Transportation, Retail, Housing and Commercial Building Developer clients.
Our NALO consultancy services include:
– Air quality.
– Environmental noise and vibration, including assessment and developing mitigation measures for buildings, highways, mining and blasting and, complex scenarios.
– Building acoustics.
– Occupational noise and hygiene.
– Environmental lighting.
– Daylight, sunlight & overshadowing.
– Odour.
As a member of the air quality team, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects undertaking surveys, modelling and assessment to determine the potential air quality effects resulting from new developments, whether that be new housing schemes, new industrial or commercial developments, or other projects such as educational facilities. The projects the team works on range from small scale developments to larger scale and major infrastructure and construction sites, with a view to protecting existing residents in the vicinity of new developments, future residents of proposed schemes, and sensitive ecological species which may be affected by air pollution. We undertake modelling and assessment of traffic pollution resulting from new developments, as well as determining the potential effects of industrial emissions and odour from a variety of sources. Whilst the main focus of this role is working on producing air quality assessments, there will also be an element of completing environmental surveys, sometimes involving overnight stays and the occasional weekend.
You will need previous experience working in air quality and be able to provide examples of your skills and experience which demonstrate your suitability for the position. The role will include undertaking surveys, modelling and writing reports which are of a standard suitable for submission with planning and permit applications. Good communication skills are essential to be able to work effectively with the team and collaboratively with the wider Tetra Tech team, clients and other consultants for multi-disciplinary projects. You will be encouraged to continue with your professional development through training and keeping up to date with events and updates from the Institute of Air Quality Management.
Our team is spread throughout the UK with a flexible approach to location, but to undertake this role you will need to be able to work in the office at least twice a week. The NALO team are primarily based in our Leeds, Leicester, Manchester and London offices.

Qualifications & Experience
– Must be degree qualified (or equivalent) and be able to provide examples of your skills and previous experience working in air quality.
– Experience using ADMS Roads modelling software.
– Experience using AERMOD software preferred but not essential.
– Experience using GIS software preferred but not essential.
– Experience of undertaking collaborative work..
– Must have good geospatial interpretation ability in order to find and identify precise locations on surveys.
– Must be willing to work flexibly to tight timescales.
– Able to use technical equipment in the field with minimum supervision.
– A full manual driving licence is essential.
– Follows relevant policies and procedures.
