This is an exciting opportunity to lead a brand-new BA Interaction Design course within the vibrant and highly respected Department of Illustration Animation — home to BA Illustration Animation, MA Illustration, MA Animation, and a thriving postgraduate research community. As Course Leader, you will shape an innovative programme and work with a dynamic and ambitious team of staff and students. Together, you will develop a curriculum that explores interaction as a human-centred storytelling practice — engaging with emerging technologies, immersive environments, and inclusive design principles to prepare students for contemporary creative challenges.

You will lead a team, overseeing curriculum planning, teaching delivery, and student support. Core teaching responsibilities include delivering workshops, tutorials, seminars, and assessments across key modules, while fostering a collaborative, experimental, and inclusive learning environment. The Course Leader will also play a central role in recruitment and building meaningful connections across departments and industry — integrating live projects, placements, and partnerships into the curriculum to provide students with valuable real-world experience.

In addition, you will contribute actively to the wider culture of Research, Knowledge Exchange, and Higher Education Pedagogy within the university. You will help embed the values of sustainability, accessibility, and equity within the student experience and departmental strategy, supporting the department’s vision and interdisciplinary culture.

We are seeking a talented and visionary educator with a strong creative and research-led practice in interaction design or a related field, such as immersive storytelling, physical computing, creative coding, game design, or participatory design. Ideally, candidates will hold a degree in Interaction Design, Communication Design, or a related subject, with a Higher Degree or Research Degree considered desirable. A critical interest in how storytelling, human experience, emerging technologies, and inclusive design strategies intersect and shape creative practice is essential.

Proven experience delivering high-quality teaching, assessment, and academic support to diverse student cohorts, alongside curriculum design and leadership experience, is required. Excellent communication skills are vital, enabling the successful candidate to inspire and manage teams effectively, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and build meaningful partnerships with both industry and academic colleagues. Proactivity in developing a personal profile in research, knowledge exchange, or higher education pedagogy is also expected.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to Kingston University’s values of being Ambitious, Inclusive, Innovative, and Enterprising, actively contributing to a dynamic and forward-thinking learning environment.
