About the Role

This is an opportunity to join a small team of dedicated, experienced and energetic teachers and practitioners who inspire their students and help them to achieve successful careers in the publishing industry. You’ll join a varied programme of practice- and research-led teaching that seeks to bring professional practice into the classroom underscored by academic research at the leading edge.

Key Responsibilities

As an hourly paid lecturer you will deliver and assess our postgraduate module Share: Strategic Marketing and Sales. The module covers all aspects of how publishing products and rights are sold, marketed and publicised, both in the home market and internationally. The practical aspects of the module include copywriting, campaign planning, event management and the creation of digital assets. Projects are run in conjunction with external partners, giving students real‑life experience.

Your experience as a publishing professional is essential, with current or recent employment (either in‑house or freelance) in a communications role. You will be confident using a range of software and platforms to create and distribute social media assets, including short‑form video and audio content. Ideally you will have experience working with audience data to inform marketing and sales strategy and be keen to develop these competencies within your role.

You will have detailed knowledge of the publishing ecosystem and be up to date with changes in the industry and the current challenges it faces. You will be enthusiastic to share knowledge and expertise of professional practice within sales, communications and international rights, to enhance the employability of our students and provide them with a lively education that can be translated into real‑world skills.

Going above and beyond to deliver exceptional teaching and support to our students will be your core motivation. You will use your experience of working in publishing and your existing networks to promote integrated professional practice across everything you do. You will impart our students with practical publishing skills and knowledge to enhance their employability and prepare them for work in this fast‑evolving industry.

Qualifications

A postgraduate qualification and experience of teaching are preferred but not essential.

Contract Details and Compensation

We are seeking to appoint an Hourly Paid Lecturer on a fixed‑term contract from 1 September 2026 to 31 July 2027. Standard Kingston rates of pay apply and currently start at £23.34 (including London weighting, not including holiday pay) for both teaching and non‑teaching hours. One lecturing hour includes preparation, delivery, follow‑up and related administration and attracts a multiplier of 2.25 increasing the hourly rate to £52.52. Non‑teaching hours include tutorials, meetings, induction and invigilation.
