Senior Technician in Chemistry, Pharmacy & Simulation in Kingston upon Thames

The role provides practical and operational technical support to the Faculty of Health, Science, Social Care and Education (HSSCE), supporting the Departments of Chemistry and Pharmacy and the School of Nursing across two local campus sites. The role will contribute to the effective delivery of teaching, student projects and research activities.

The post holder will support the Assistant Technical Officer (ATO), and the day-to-day operation of the departments, including assisting with the supervision of junior technical staff, providing technical support and laboratory cover within Chemistry and preparing, setting up and dismantling practical classes in the Pharmaceutics laboratories. They will also deliver a range of practical sessions to students studying Pharmaceutical Science and Pharmacy.

Another key aspect of the role is providing technical support for simulation-based learning within the Schools of Nursing and Pharmacy. This will include assisting junior technical staff with the delivery of simulation activities, setting up and dismantling equipment for teaching and assessment, resolving technical issues, and supporting the introduction and development of new simulation technologies designed to enhance the student learning experience.

The postholder will work collaboratively with academic and technical colleagues and a wide range of stakeholders, providing reliable day-to-day support to ensure the smooth, safe and effective delivery of teaching, learning and assessment activities. The successful candidate will ideally have experience in some or all of these areas, alongside a Chemistry Degree. The role is based across two local university campuses, so a flexible approach to working across both sites is essential. An inter-campus bus service is available to support travel between locations.

As well as a Degree in Chemistry and laboratory experience you will have good problem-solving skills and be confident working with emerging and future technologies in the field of simulated learning. Health and Safety knowledge is essential for the role with ongoing training provided with the post.

Reporting to the Assistant Technical Officer on a day-to-day basis and working under the direction of the Simulation Manager whilst in our Nursing Department, you will play a key role in supporting students and academic staff throughout their practical teaching and learning activities.

This is a full time, permanent position with a starting salary of £39,407 per annum.
