Our client is looking to appoint an Estimator to join their established engineering and manufacturing team. This role will play a key part in the tendering process, preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting the submission of competitive proposals for complex fabrication and engineering projects. Working closely with engineering, production and procurement teams, you will analyse technical documentation, assess project requirements and produce detailed costings to support successful project delivery. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with strong technical and analytical skills who enjoys working on varied and technically challenging projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Review client enquiries, technical drawings and specifications to understand project scope
- Prepare detailed cost estimates covering materials, labour, subcontract services and overheads
- Carry out material take-offs and evaluate fabrication and manufacturing requirements
- Liaise with procurement teams and suppliers to obtain accurate material and subcontract pricing
- Analyse project complexity and identify potential risks within tender submissions
- Prepare commercial and technical proposals for client submission
- Work closely with engineering, production and quality teams to ensure accurate project evaluation
- Maintain cost databases and historical project records to improve future estimation accuracy
- Support project handover processes following successful tender awards
- Assist with cost comparisons, profitability analysis and tender reporting
The Candidate
- Previous experience in an estimating role within an engineering, fabrication or manufacturing environment
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications and engineering documentation
- Good understanding of fabrication and manufacturing processes
- Highly numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work to tight deadlines
- Strong communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with internal teams and suppliers
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other estimating or costing tools
