The Cellular Pathology team at Kingston Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a dedicated post holder to provide data, scientific, and technical services that support the diagnosis and treatment of patients. This role involves working across Histology, Diagnostic Non‑Gynaecological Cytology, and the Mortuary.
Job Responsibilities
- The post holder will work as a member of the Cellular Pathology team providing data, scientific and technical services used for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- This department consists of Histology, Diagnostic non‑gynae cytology and the mortuary.
- Where appropriate, the post holder will work under the guidance of more experienced staff in undertaking the scientific tasks in most sections of the department.
- Assisting senior staff in training of new staff as required.
- The post holder will be expected to ensure the effective delivery of a high‑quality service that meets the needs and requirements of all users, maintaining accreditation with UKAS ISO 15189 and compliance with statutory and non‑statutory bodies.
- Assist and support registered Biomedical Scientists in providing a professional laboratory service to all users.
- Carry out duties with supervision that may require decision‑making, always referencing senior or clinical staff.
- Work in a designated area of the department under the supervision of a section leader while organising own work activities to ensure all work is completed to the appropriate quality and timely standard.
- Work in accordance with SOPs to ensure consistent delivery of a high‑quality histopathology and diagnostic non‑gynae cytology service.
- Assist BMS and consultant staff at surgical specimen assessment.
- Sort and label specimens quickly and accurately and follow policy on mislabelled and mislaid specimens.
- Undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time, consistent with the responsibilities of the grade.
