As part of the Information Centre team, this Information Centre Coordinator role supports the Information Centre Leadership team to develop and deliver high quality, innovative student-focused first-line Information Centre support services and oversight of library buildings.

The role provides day-to-day supervision of Information Centre services, staff workloads and library buildings and spaces, whilst contributing to a positive team ethos and delivering agreed service and University objectives. The Information Centre acts as the first point of contact for a variety of student support services across the University, answering with empathy a wide range of student enquiries. The Information Centre Coordinator role also acts as a point of referral for more complex, multi-faceted enquiries taking a proactive approach to supporting members of the team. The role provides support to students who require further generalist advice and guidance, navigating the University’s second line specialist advice services or accessing emergency support.

The Information Centre Coordinator role is also responsible for the day to day supervision of library spaces including opening and closing building as required, managing behaviour and resolving and escalating issues within these spaces. This role is an on-campus position, that requires flexibility to work across all sites as required including some evening and weekends depending on service requirements.

The Person

We are looking for someone who has the ability to proactively supervise and support, direct and coordinate the work of others in a fast-paced customer focused environment. You will have the ability to support colleagues dealing with a large volume of enquiries on a variety of subjects through various channels of communication such as Help Desks, telephones and an enquiry management system. You must have the ability to communicate effectively for a range of audiences. You will have the ability to show a demonstrable commitment to customer service and continuous service improvement and be able to work as part of a team and contribute positively to the team effort.

You will have an understanding of ‘student hub’ type support services (including Information Centre and Library services) and experience of using and supporting colleagues use enquiry management systems. You will show evidence of being IT literate with the ability to develop in-depth end user expertise. You will also have an understanding of mental health ‘first aid’.

Directorate/Function

The Student Services section provides the University’s first- and second-line services for students incorporating the Information Centre, Library and Learning Services, Course & Student Administration, Student Engagement and Student Life, Health and Wellbeing. Services are designed to be accessible and inclusive of all students, to ensure their enquiries are resolved quickly and support is available to enable them to fully engage with and succeed in their studies.
