Senior Mechanical Engineer – Tilbury Full-Time | Permanent Salary: Competitive The Opportunity We are recruiting on behalf of a leading organisation within the energy and resource recovery sector for an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a brand-new Energy from Waste (EfW) facility in Tilbury. This is a newly built site that is currently progressing towards full operation, with the facility expected to become fully operational in March/April. This is a unique opportunity to join the engineering team during the early stages of the site's development and play a key role in establishing safe, effective and reliable maintenance practices. The start date will be January. Reporting to the Engineering & Maintenance Manager, you will lead and supervise a team of Mechanical Technicians while taking responsibility for mechanical maintenance, contractors, statutory compliance and the performance of key plant and equipment. The role would suit a mechanically biased engineer with strong leadership experience gained within Energy from Waste, power generation, heavy industrial, process, manufacturing, utilities or a similar environment. Key Responsibilities Plan, coordinate and supervise mechanical maintenance activities, including planned outages and reactive shutdowns. Lead, support and develop a team of Mechanical Technicians, maintaining high standards of safety, performance and workmanship. Manage mechanical contractors and service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, on time and in line with agreed KPIs. Oversee statutory inspections and ensure relevant compliance records and documentation are maintained. Take responsibility for the mechanical workshop and site stores. Ensure effective use of the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Ensure maintenance activities are completed in accordance with Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work procedures. Maximise plant availability and asset performance while working within agreed maintenance budgets. Conduct team briefings, performance reviews and support the professional development of direct reports. Work collaboratively with Electrical, Controls and Operations teams to improve overall plant performance. Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement across engineering and maintenance activities. About You We're looking for an experienced mechanical engineer with a strong technical background and proven experience leading maintenance teams within an industrial environment. Essential Requirements HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering. Experience supervising mechanical maintenance teams and contractors. Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair. Experience working with Permit to Work and Safe Systems of Work. Knowledge of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR) and statutory inspection requirements. Experience using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS). Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively at all levels. Competent IT skills. Desirable Experience Experience within Energy from Waste, power generation, waste management, heavy process, manufacturing, utilities or a similar industrial environment. Previous experience managing engineering contractors and external service providers. Experience delivering continuous improvement projects or initiatives.
