An established and growing business is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its finance team in Tewkesbury. Reporting to the Financial Controller, this role offers exposure to a wide range of financial responsibilities and the opportunity to play a key role in supporting accurate financial reporting and continuous improvement of financial processes.
The successful candidate will manage key accounting activities including month-end processes, balance sheet reconciliations and year-end preparation, whilst also providing support and guidance to junior members of the finance team.
The Role
You will take responsibility for maintaining accurate financial records, producing reports and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. The role will involve working closely with internal departments and supporting the delivery of robust financial controls across the business. This position also includes line management responsibility for assistant accountants and purchase ledger support, ensuring efficient day-to-day running of finance processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage fixed asset accounting records.
- Prepare month-end journals, including accruals and prepayments.
- Complete balance sheet reconciliations across key control accounts.
- Support the preparation of year-end accounts and audit requirements.
- Produce financial analysis and management reports.
- Submit statutory and regulatory returns including P11D, PSA and other required submissions.
- Assist with implementation of new accounting standards and reporting requirements.
- Complete annual reporting requirements and statistical returns.
- Oversee stock reconciliation and financial data accuracy.
- Provide day-to-day support and supervision to assistant accountants and purchase ledger staff.
- Support continuous improvement of financial processes and reporting systems.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience working in a financial accounting or management accounting role.
- Strong knowledge of balance sheet reconciliations, journals, accruals and prepayments.
- Experience supporting year-end accounts and audit processes.
- Strong analytical skills and a high level of accuracy.
- Strong Excel skills and general IT literacy.
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines.
Desirable
- ACCA qualified or part-qualified, or equivalent experience.
- Experience using accounting systems such as Sage 200.
- Previous experience supervising or supporting junior finance staff.
- Experience within a commercial or manufacturing environment.
