About the Role
Are you an experienced logistics professional looking for a hands-on leadership role? A leading distribution company based in Avonmouth is seeking a proactive and organised Distribution Supervisor to join our team. In this role, you will be the driving force behind our daily warehouse and transport operations, managing a dedicated team of warehouse staff and HGV drivers to ensure our high-quality timber products are stored safely and delivered to our customers on time.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership: Supervising, motivating, and managing daily tasks for warehouse operatives and HGV Class 1 & 2 drivers.
- Operational Oversight: Coordinating the daily dispatch and delivery schedules, ensuring vehicles are loaded safely, accurately, and on time.
- Health & Safety: Maintaining a strict culture of health and safety across the yard, warehouse, and transport operations, ensuring full compliance with PPE, manual handling, and vehicle safety checks.
- Inventory & Yard Management: Overseeing the receiving, storing, and picking of timber stock, maintaining a clean, organised, and efficient yard.
- Compliance: Ensuring HGV drivers adhere to driver hours, tachograph regulations, and transport compliance legislation.
- Problem Solving: Handling day-to-day logistical challenges, route adjustments, and customer service queries professionally.
What We Are Looking For
- Proven Experience: At least 2+ years of experience in a supervisory or team leader role within a distribution, warehousing, or yard environment (experience in building materials is a major plus).
- Transport Knowledge: A strong understanding of HGV logistics, route planning, and driver compliance/hours regulations.
- Strong Leadership Skills: Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead, delegate, and gain the respect of a busy operational team.
- Safety-First Mindset: Up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety legislation.
- Qualifications (Desirable): A valid forklift license (Counterbalance/Reach) or a transport manager CPC is highly advantageous but not essential.
