A rapidly expanding manufacturing business supplying bespoke products to a wide range of sectors, including construction, engineering and manufacturing. The site operates across several specialist manufacturing areas, with this position being based within the extrusion side of the business.
The Role
We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to join the engineering team. This is a hands-on, multi-skilled maintenance position with a strong mechanical and hydraulic bias. You will be responsible for keeping production equipment running effectively, carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance and supporting the wider engineering team with fault finding and repairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across manufacturing equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical faults and breakdowns.
- Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Replace and repair bearings, seals and hydraulic components.
- Carry out component changes and straight swaps where required.
- Support preventative maintenance and TPM activities.
- Carry out general mechanical fault finding and repairs.
- Electrical maintenance and fault finding would be beneficial.
- Work safely and effectively to minimise production downtime.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience within a manufacturing or industrial maintenance environment.
- A strong mechanical maintenance background, ideally with multi-skilled experience.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Experience working with bearings, seals and other mechanical components.
- Electrical maintenance experience would be advantageous.
- An apprenticeship or equivalent engineering training.
- Level 3 engineering qualification preferred, with Level 2 considered.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a wider engineering team.
Shift Pattern
This role operates on a 3-week rotating 12-hour shift pattern, working 06:00–18:00 days and 18:00–06:00 nights:
- Week 1: Monday & Tuesday OFF, Wednesday–Friday DAYS
- Week 2: Monday–Wednesday NIGHTS, Thursday & Friday OFF
- Week 3: Monday & Tuesday DAYS, Wednesday OFF, Thursday & Friday NIGHTS
Additional 12-hour day shift every 6 weeks. Average of 42 hours per week, or approximately 39.5 hours after unpaid breaks. Tuesday day shifts are used for TPM activities (06:00–18:00). There is no scheduled weekend working, although there is an opportunity to work approximately one weekend per month as overtime if desired.
Salary & Benefits
- Base Salary of £50,000-£53,000 (this includes attendance allowance)
- £1,040.04 attendance payment, paid monthly
- Overtime paid at 1.3x during the week
- Weekend overtime paid at 1.5x, with double time after 8 hours
- 23 days' annual leave + bank holidays
