Job Title: Process Discipline Lead - (Nuclear) (Permanent)
Location: Abingdon, Oxford (some hybrid working available)
Salary: Β£85,000 + benefits
This business has a globally recognised expertise in the nuclear fuel cycle. The Group offers its customers high-performance products and services, from mining to dismantling, conversion, enrichment, recycling, logistics, and engineering services. We now require a Process Discipline Lead for our Abingdon location.
Responsibilities
- Developing, maintaining, and sustaining the process engineering capabilities needed to deliver the engineering function.
- Guide development of pragmatic, fit-for-purpose process engineering solutions for all projects.
- Acquiring and allocating internal process engineering resources, enabling resource mobility, and optimising resource deployment to maximise value.
- Work to develop, maintain, and apply process engineering procedures, standards, and guides.
- Recommending process engineering supply chain capability requirements and links with parent companies and professional bodies to develop a strategic network of resources and ready access to subject matter experts.
- Selection, SQEPing, and appointment of Principal Engineers and direct reports.
- The leadership, mentoring, health, safety, career development, and performance management of direct reports.
- Ensuring that appropriate single discipline design reviews are carried out and multidisciplinary design reviews are supported in a timely manner.
- Providing consultancy support, advice, and guidance on process engineering matters.
- Providing process engineering support to ensure that design engineering related risks are identified and mitigation plans developed.
- Supporting communication and liaison with regulators as required.
- Reviewing pertinent process engineering legislation and ensuring that relevant requirements are incorporated into engineering procedures.
Skills and Experience
- Extensive experience in process engineering.
- Recent experience working in regulated and quality assured systems in nuclear roles where engineering judgement is a key attribute.
- Extensive experience delivering complex process engineering packages for various plant types at different lifecycle stages, demonstrating leadership of dedicated teams with an established reputation at national and international levels.
- Experience using knowledge and expertise to develop new ideas and ways of working to provide added value, manage delivery variations, and identify innovations for future development.
- Experience interfacing with other discipline specialists and leading multi-disciplinary teams, e.g., other engineering disciplines, shielding, safety, etc.
- Experience acting as an Intelligent Client/Independent Subject Matter Expert within the assurance process (e.g., design review, peer review, independent technical assessment).
- Proven experience as lead author/checker/approver for complex process engineering activities and deliverables for high hazard category facilities/plants.
- Involvement in the approval of process engineering proposals to support new business cases and strategies at client sites.
- Experience chairing governance reviews, design reviews, and other gate reviews to accept designs and strategies, providing technical governance.
Qualifications
- BEng (Hons) or MEng (Hons)
- Professional Membership: Chartered Engineer MIChemE (advantageous)
