The Humanities Faculty
The Humanities Faculty (History, Geography, RE) is well‑established and highly valued. It is formed of several Learning Directors of Department across the subject specialisms, and their experienced teams. Colleagues teach across multiple subject areas, which are underpinned by established curriculums that are fully resourced. Lessons are adapted by teaching staff to help meet the needs of their individual pupils, and the curriculums are regularly reviewed to ensure best practice in the sector is reflected. All students study History, Geography and RE in Key Stage 3, and the vast majority continue with History or Geography alongside their compulsory RE studies at Key Stage 4. Geography and History are offered at Key Stage 5 with a healthy intake, and students achieve well in their A-Level examinations. Three students in 2025 met their offers to study History at Cambridge. The majority of teachers are allocated their own teaching rooms, and have access to online learning platforms to support their students. Departments are allocated weekly meeting time to support them with co-planning and necessary curriculum adaptations in response to formative assessments.
Role Summary
The successful candidate will play a crucial role in driving forward each subject area where needed most, collaborating with colleagues to support their students to achieve their potential across all subject specialisms, ensuring consistency across the faculty.
Team Culture
The Humanities team is supportive, friendly and highly collaborative, with a strong culture of shared planning, professional dialogue and mutual support. Many teachers teach across multiple subject disciplines, and Learning Directors of Department work collaboratively to ensure a fair distribution of workload to enable colleagues to succeed well professionally. There is a strong track record of promotion from within the Humanities Department.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for an ambitious, motivated and diligent teacher with high expectations, who can inspire students across all Key Stages and multiple subject disciplines to thrive academically. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching at least two subject specialisms across the Humanities Faculty, although strong applications with one discipline only will be considered.
