KKingsmead is a large, oversubscribed school that, despite serving a postcode in the top 20% most deprived parts of England, has an ambitious curriculum, with almost exclusively GCSE KS4 and A Level KS5, aiming for 90% EBacc while also having a performing arts specialism. Responsibilities
- Establish and maintain systems as required for access and use of the computing facilities.
- Maintain the general order and condition of the library - tidying shelves, putting books away, ensuring that displays are kept relevant and to a high standard.
- Organise NGRT Tests (liaison with Data Manager and Literacy Coordinator).
- Develop the Library induction programme for students and staff.
- Run a structured volunteer programme for Sixth Form and/or Year 7 students.
- Train and mentor student librarians to support library operations and promote reading among peers.
- Assist students with homework and coursework across the day and in after school sessions.
- Supervise the Sixth Form students during private study periods in the library.
- Support the wider administrative needs of the school.
- Work to the direction of the Literacy Coordinator to ensure the Library and its facilities are used appropriately, with high standards of behaviour, applying the school’s Behaviour policy.
- Deal with staff queries and assist during lesson times in the library.
- Support the Literacy Coordinator in keeping the Just Reading curriculum up to date and relevant, maintaining and expanding the curriculum, advising on suitable fiction and non-fiction titles.
- Be an active and visible advocate for the importance of reading for pleasure in all school forums.
- Support the Literacy Co‑Ordinator in initiatives to promote a love of reading throughout the school, including author visits, reading challenges, book clubs, and themed events.
- Work with the Literacy Co‑Ordinator to collaborate with teachers to embed reading into all subject areas and support cross‑curricular literacy.
- Recognise and celebrate student achievements in reading through various communication channels, such as awards, displays, and newsletters.
- Organise competitions, quizzes, and activities in order to increase awareness of the library resources.
- Promote student voice in library development and book selection.
