A major leadership opportunity. We are working with a leading UK construction business to appoint an experienced Project Director to take a senior leadership role on a significant, complex development in West Yorkshire. This is a high-profile appointment requiring an accomplished construction leader with a proven track record of delivering major healthcare and/or large-scale public sector projects.
The successful individual will take overall responsibility for project leadership and delivery, working with senior clients, stakeholders, consultants and supply-chain partners within a complex, highly regulated environment.
The Opportunity
As Project Director, you will provide strategic leadership across all aspects of the programme, taking responsibility for delivery, commercial performance, stakeholder relationships, risk and team leadership. This is not simply about managing a large construction project. The complexity of the stakeholder environment means we are looking for someone who understands the demands of delivering major public sector programmes, ideally within healthcare. You'll need the presence to operate confidently at senior client level while remaining sufficiently close to the project to drive successful delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide overall strategic leadership and project direction
- Lead large, multidisciplinary project and delivery teams
- Build trusted relationships with senior public sector clients and stakeholders
- Take ownership of programme, commercial performance and project outcomes
- Manage risk within a complex and highly governed project environment
- Drive collaboration across consultants, contractors and supply-chain partners
- Champion safety, quality, innovation and continuous improvement
- Represent the business at senior client and stakeholder level
What We're Looking For
- Major healthcare and/or significant public sector project experience is essential.
- We are particularly interested in speaking with senior construction professionals who can demonstrate:
- A strong track record of delivering large-scale, complex construction programmes
- Significant experience within healthcare, government, education, defence or other major public sector environments
- Experience operating as a Project Director, Construction Director or equivalent senior project leader
- Leadership of large, multidisciplinary teams and complex supply chains
- Strong commercial and contractual understanding
- Experience navigating demanding governance and stakeholder structures
- The credibility and executive presence to engage with senior clients and public sector stakeholders
- A strategic mindset combined with a hands-on understanding of project delivery
- Experience of delivering major acute healthcare or hospital developments would be particularly valuable.
Why Consider It?
This is an opportunity to take a leading role on a substantial programme with genuine regional and social impact. You'll join a highly regarded construction business with the capability, resources and ambition to deliver complex projects at scale, while having the autonomy and influence expected of a senior Project Director. For someone who has already delivered major public sector schemes and is looking for their next significant career project, this represents a compelling opportunity.
West Yorkshire Director-level package + car allowance, pension and comprehensive benefits. All enquiries will be handled in the strictest confidence.
