Freelance M&E Quantity Surveyor - Decarbonisation / Replacement Schemes

We are working with a growing consultancy looking to appoint an experienced Freelance M&E Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a major decarbonisation programme within the healthcare sector.
This is a part-time freelance assignment, expected to run for approximately 6-8 months, working around 2 days per week.
The role will be predominantly post-contract, supporting the commercial management of the project through the delivery phase to completion.
Crucially, we are looking for a Quantity Surveyor with a strong contractor-side background and demonstrable M&E / Building Services experience. Previous involvement in decarbonisation, M&E replacement, plant replacement, energy-efficiency or major services upgrade schemes would be particularly relevant.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Post-contract Quantity Surveying and commercial management
- Commercial management of mechanical and electrical packages
- Valuations, variations and change control
- Cost reporting, forecasting and cash flow management
- Assessment and management of subcontractor accounts
- Managing applications, payments and commercial reporting
- Supporting procurement and management of M&E packages
- Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities
- Supporting final account negotiations
- Monitoring project costs against budget
- Working closely with the client, project team, contractors and supply chain
- Providing clear commercial advice throughout the delivery phase
- Supporting the successful delivery of a significant healthcare decarbonisation programme
About You
We are looking for an experienced freelance QS who can demonstrate:
- Strong M&E / Building Services Quantity Surveying experience - essential
- Previous experience working for a contractor - essential
- Strong post-contract commercial experience
- Experience commercially managing mechanical and electrical packages
- Good knowledge of valuations, variations, change control, cost reporting and final accounts
- Experience working with subcontractors and the wider supply chain
- The ability to work independently and proactively manage commercial issues
- Strong client-facing and communication skills
Experience working on decarbonisation, plant replacement, M&E replacement, energy-efficiency or building services upgrade programmes would be highly advantageous.
Previous exposure to healthcare, NHS or other complex live operational environments would also be beneficial.
