An established international energy services company, supporting clients across the global energy industry through technology and technical solutions, is seeking an experienced Principal Legal Counsel to provide senior legal support across its UK and international operations.
Based at the company’s Brooklands, Surrey office, this is a senior standalone legal role reporting directly to the General Counsel. The successful candidate will work closely with international business leaders on complex commercial, corporate and strategic matters, while collaborating with colleagues across a global legal team.
The Role
As Principal Legal Counsel, you will provide senior, commercially focused legal advice across a broad range of business activities, supporting the UK and wider international operations. You will have the opportunity to develop and strengthen legal processes and capabilities across the business, while working closely with senior stakeholders and the global legal team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Acting as a senior legal advisor to UK and regional business operations
- Advising on commercial contracts, tenders, licensing agreements and supplier arrangements
- Supporting joint ventures, corporate transactions and strategic projects
- Advising on governance, compliance, employment matters and dispute resolution
- Managing relationships with external legal counsel
- Partnering with international legal colleagues on cross-border matters and strategic initiatives
- Providing legal support for mergers, acquisitions and other strategic transactions
- Developing and enhancing legal processes, frameworks and ways of working across the business
- Delivering legal and compliance training to regional teams
- Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments affecting the business
- Advising senior management on legal risk and supporting commercial decision-making
About You
You will be a qualified lawyer with 10+ years’ post-qualification experience, with strong corporate and commercial experience gained within an international business environment.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Qualification to practise in England & Wales
- Significant in-house experience within a multinational organisation
- Strong international and cross-border legal experience
- A strong corporate and commercial legal background
- Experience developing legal frameworks, processes and capabilities within a growing or evolving business
- Strong commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach
- Experience advising across multiple jurisdictions
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and communication skills
- The confidence to operate autonomously while working effectively as part of a global legal team
- Experience in the energy, engineering, technology or infrastructure sectors would be advantageous but is not essential.
