Senior Counsel / Director of Legal | International Business | Surrey

I'm working with an established international business on a senior legal appointment based at its Surrey office.
This is a broad, commercially focused role supporting the UK and wider international operations of a business with a significant global footprint. You'll work closely with senior stakeholders across different regions, while also partnering with colleagues across a wider international Legal team.
The role would suit a senior commercial lawyer who enjoys working autonomously, is comfortable operating across multiple jurisdictions and wants genuine exposure to international business.
The role will cover:
- Providing senior legal support across the UK and international business
- Commercial contracts, tenders, licensing and supplier arrangements
- Corporate transactions, joint ventures and M&A
- Governance, compliance, employment and regulatory matters
- International and cross-border projects
- Managing relationships with external legal advisers
- Advising senior stakeholders on legal risk and commercial decisions
- Supporting global legal and strategic projects
- Developing legal processes, policies and training across the business
- Monitoring relevant legal and regulatory developments
The ideal candidate will have:
- UK qualification, or qualification in another jurisdiction with strong UK legal knowledge
- Significant in-house experience within an international or multinational organisation
- Strong corporate and commercial legal experience
- Proven international and cross-border experience
- Confidence operating independently in a standalone regional role
- Strong commercial judgement and a pragmatic, solutions-focused approach
- Excellent drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
- Experience developing or improving legal processes and capabilities within a business
Sector experience in energy, technology, engineering or infrastructure would be advantageous but is not essential.
This is a senior role offering significant autonomy, international exposure and the opportunity to work closely with the business and help shape the way the legal function operates.
