Our client, a globally recognised consumer business with a portfolio of iconic and fast-growing brands, is seeking an experienced Marketing Counsel to join its international legal team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer who enjoys working at the intersection of brand, creativity, and innovation in a fast-paced global environment.
The Role
Working closely with marketing, brand, creative, digital, and commercial teams, you will play a key role in supporting high-profile campaigns, product launches, and brand initiatives across multiple international markets. The position offers broad exposure to advertising, consumer law, intellectual property, digital marketing, and brand protection matters within a dynamic, consumer-focused business. This is a highly collaborative role suited to a lawyer who enjoys partnering directly with creative and marketing stakeholders and providing practical, solutions-oriented advice that enables innovation while managing legal risk.
Key Responsibilities
- Advise marketing, creative, and brand teams on advertising, marketing, and consumer law matters across multiple jurisdictions.
- Provide strategic IP support across a portfolio of global consumer brands, including trademarks, copyright, licensing, brand protection, and clearance issues.
- Support the development and launch of integrated marketing campaigns, influencer partnerships, sponsorships, promotions, and digital content initiatives.
- Review and negotiate a broad range of commercial and marketing agreements, including agency, talent, production, media, and licensing contracts.
- Partner closely with creative and digital teams to deliver commercially focused advice that supports innovation and brand growth.
- Advise on social media, e-commerce, comparative advertising, packaging, claims substantiation, and consumer-facing communications.
- Manage IP enforcement matters and coordinate with external counsel on disputes and trademark portfolio management.
- Develop practical guidance and training for marketing and business teams on advertising compliance and brand protection best practices.
Candidate Profile
- Qualified lawyer (5-8 years PQE) with strong experience in marketing, advertising, consumer law, and intellectual property matters.
- Experience gained in a leading law firm and/or in-house within a consumer-facing, retail, FMCG, luxury, media, or technology business.
- Proven experience working closely with marketing, brand, and creative teams in a collaborative, fast-moving environment is essential.
- Strong understanding of brand strategy and the commercial realities of consumer marketing.
- Experience advising on digital marketing, influencer campaigns, social media, and content-related matters.
- Commercially minded with the ability to provide pragmatic, business-friendly advice under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with confidence engaging across all levels of the organisation.
- International experience and comfort working across multiple jurisdictions would be advantageous.
