Our client is a leading UK multi-service provider, bringing together energy, broadband, mobile, insurance and other essential services under one simple bill. Built around a network of independent Partners rather than traditional retail or call centres, it's a warm, fast-paced, people-first business with a lean, close-knit legal team.
We're looking for a Senior Legal Counsel to act as trusted legal partner to the Financial Services team covering home insurance, boiler & home cover, income protection, a cashback card and consumer credit. You'll also step into people management, with one to two Legal Counsels reporting into you.
This is a commercial and negotiation role, not a regulatory specialism - there's a dedicated Compliance team for FS regulatory advice. However, you must have prior experience working within or alongside a financial services environment. You need to be comfortable in the room when regulatory issues come up, know your way around the FCA Handbook, and know when to bring in specialist input.
What you'll do:
- Be the primary legal business partner to the Financial Services division
- Advise on insurance, cashback card and consumer credit products, plus key supplier agreements
- Support new financial products from concept to launch
- Manage, coach and develop a small team of Legal Counsels
What you'll need:
- 5–7 years PQE, in-house and/or private practice
- Essential: experience working within or alongside a financial services or fintech environment, with working knowledge of FS regulation
- Strong track record negotiating commercial and technology contracts
- Experience managing or mentoring junior lawyers, or clear readiness to do so
- Comfort with legal tech/CLM systems and openness to Legal AI tools
- Insurance, payment services or consumer credit experience is a plus, not essential
You will be joining a superb team who all take ownership in their own areas. The business and team are hardworking, fun and all thrive in a fast paced environment. They are based in central London with two days a week in the office.
