Senior Mental Health Practitioner (Band 6) – Psychiatric Liaison Service

Job Location: Psychiatric Liaison Service, Torbay & South Devon Mental Health Unit, Torbay Hospital, Devon, TQ2 7AA.

We are seeking experienced and motivated Band 6 Senior Mental Health Practitioners with significant post‑qualifying experience to join our dynamic team in the Torbay Liaison Psychiatry Service. Applicants may consider part‑time or full‑time contracts, and we actively support flexible working arrangements. This is a 24/7 role with an expectation to cover night duties on a rolling rota. All staff receive enhanced pay rates for unsocial hours.

Liaison Psychiatry specialises in the interface between medicine and psychiatry in a general hospital setting. Our service is part of a nationwide investment, and we have the opportunity to further enhance and develop the already well‑established Liaison Services at Torbay District General Hospital in Torquay, South Devon.

Main duties of the job

  • Support referrals from colleagues within Torbay General Hospital and work within a busy team that completes both assessment and consultation work with patients requiring mental health support.
  • Make specialist mental health assessments and devise interventions that support recovery.
  • Play a key role in a multidisciplinary team, working daily with multiple agencies.
  • Work confidently with supervision and develop individual recovery plans for patients.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, families, and carers.

Qualifications and experience

  • Experienced mental‑health professional with a recognised qualification such as RMN, CQSW / ASW, BSc/Diploma in OT, or SROT.
  • Significant post‑qualifying experience in a Band 6 role.
  • Ability to work effectively in a 24/7 round‑the‑clock environment.
