Our Firm
My client specialising in the defence of serious crime. We are frequently instructed to represent and defend in extremely serious cases, involving some of the most notorious crimes prosecuted in recent times and quite often cases attracting national notoriety and publicity. As a modern and dynamic firm, we embrace the latest technology and cutting-edge practices in our strive for excellence. We pride ourselves on thorough and robust defence case preparation, working hard to formulate novel points to enable us to articulate powerful and compelling submissions on behalf of those whom we represent.
The Position
We are fortunate to benefit from a solid team of talent comprising some of the best Solicitors who are eminent within their profession. We are continually expanding and are now seeking to develop our team further by the addition of additional Criminal Duty Solicitors; preferably with LAA Crime Category Supervisor status; to supervise, manage and lead a team.
The successful candidate shall be expected to manage a heavy caseload of very serious offences and proactively lead and manage a team of highly dedicated lawyers. The role shall require police station attendances both in and outside of office hours, Court appearances to conduct advocacy at first hearings, interim hearings and trial advocacy as well as meticulous case preparation and litigation. The role shall include the management and supervision of other Criminal Duty Solicitors and the allocation of their work whilst ensuring compliance with the 2022 Standard Crime Contract. This is an extremely challenging and demanding role but one that is rewarding in equal measure. Although our firm continues to grow, we maintain a small family firm ethos and seek an individual who will complement and enhance our existing teams.
Requirements
The successful candidate shall have the ability to guide, manage and lead others and be able to offer constructive criticism and feedback to team members to enable them to improve their performance. They must be able to work with minimum supervision themselves, use their own initiative and be self-disciplined. The successful candidate must be a robust individual, tenacious in their pursuit of justice.
The nature of criminal defence requires considerable mental dexterity. It regularly involves working unsociable hours: evenings and weekends to represent suspects detained at the police station and before the Courts. This requires a careful balancing of competing demands. Accordingly, this role requires an individual who is entirely committed and dedicated to criminal defence work, who takes pride in the profession and is passionate about what they do and the results that they achieve. The candidate will be on our out of hours rota.
