About Us
Kingsclere Vets was born when the practice owner, Laura, felt frustrated being trapped in a corporate world. Kingsclere Vets is a high-end, boutique practice where the staff have the time, facilities and means to provide excellent care to its pets and their owners. We are a close, friendly, fun team, who thrive on doing a good job. We have wonderful, well-bonded clients, who consistently give us 5* reviews, brilliant Facebook comments/reviews, some lovely gifts and cards, and generally make the team feel good! The practice was fully refurbished from offices to a vets in 2023/2024, so is shiny and new! We used an interior designer to help give us a spa feel, without losing the practicality you would expect from a vets. We are very proud to have achieved the Dog’s Trust Dog Friendly Accreditation, Gold ISFM accreditation, and GP RCVS PSS Accreditation in our first year. We have also won the Vet Help Direct Best Vets in Hampshire last year, and are nominated to receive the award again this year.
The Role
The full-time small animal role can be flexible for the right candidate. Currently, our assistant works a 4-day week, 8am-6pm, with a 1:5 OOH rota (one night per week and 10 weekends per year on call, with a day off after your weekend on call). Our out of hours is quiet, with many weeks going by without being called in, as the clients respect and value that our vets work day and night shifts in order to provide the service. Often, a phone call or some WhatsApps (on the work number) are enough to put the client at ease until the following day. On call is supported by our fantastic RVNs who can be called in for any emergencies/inpatients. There are currently no routine consults on a weekend; the practice is closed other than for emergencies. Consults are a minimum of 20 minutes, but longer for multiple conditions/complex cases. There are lots of gaps spread through the day, to allow for catch up, paperwork and phone calls. Lunch is one hour, and we have lots of lovely walks on the downs which our staff often take advantage of, especially on a warm day! Currently, vets do 2 days surgery, 2 days consults per week.
The practice benefits from:
- 5 consult rooms
- A separate cat and dog waiting area
- Dog ward with extra large walk-ins with glass doors + orthopaedic mattresses in all kennels, oxygen kennel, dimmable lighting, speakers for music
- Cat ward with gold standard ISFM double kennels, cat castles, oxygen kennel, dimmable lighting, speakers for music
- Two large theatres, bair hugger/multiparameter
- Large prep room with induction/recovery kennels, piped oxygen
- Separate laundry room
- Separate dental suite with full IM3 equipment- DR x-ray, height adjustable dental table, wall mounted dental equipment (compressor in laundry to keep noise levels low)
- Separate imaging suite with DR x-ray, floating table, and 3 probe Sonobook ultrasound
- Large staff kitchen equipped with fridge freezer, oven and hobs.
- 3rd floor under construction to include bathroom, bedroom, offices, conference room and a bar!
We have had several enquiries from clients regarding a farm department, which we currently do not have. Laura has previously done farm work, so if the right candidate applied who wishes to both, and had an interest in helping set up a farm department- please get in touch!
Successful Candidate
We are looking for someone to become part of our team, and immerse themselves in Kingsclere Vets philosophy of old-world vetting, with modern medicine and equipment. We are laid back, humorous, but hard working. We love a staff night out, whether for a meal or for some cocktails, and do “Friday Drinks” most weeks! The successful candidate will be happy working alone, for example OOH or on the odd occasion they may be sole charge, but also enjoy solving cases in a team environment. They will be a people person, who enjoys chatting and getting to know our lovely clients, and possess good communication skills to help them understand treatment options and plans.
The Package
Salary based on experience and qualification, £40,000 - £70,000. CPD encouraged, certificates supported and funded. VDS/RCVS paid. Private health insurance. Enhanced sick pay. Regular “fun lunches” paid for by the practice. Opportunity for career progression for the right candidate.
