We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Deputy Preschool Manager to assist with the Preschool Manager in overseeing the daily operations of our preschool. The post is a term time role, working to Hampshire County Council's academic calendar. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to early childhood education and will play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and stimulating environment for young children. This position requires effective leadership skills, a deep understanding of educational practices, and the ability to foster positive relationships with children, parents, and staff.
Responsibilities
- Accountable to the Manager and responsible for all pre-school staff in the absence of the Manager.
- Work together with and alongside the Manager to support the day-to-day running of the pre-school; contribute to and implement pre-school policies and ensure children’s safety and compliance with legal and statutory requirements.
- Promote and deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) principles within the setting.
- Collaborate with the Manager to draw termly plans that reflect the EYFS requirements.
- Remain a key person to children within the preschool, count in ratios, and perform duties typical for regular preschool staff.
- Monitor learning outcomes, observe and assess to evaluate the effectiveness of the pre-school curriculum.
- Supervise and support staff to deliver the daily programme of activities and events, maintaining high standards of care and teaching.
- Maintain children’s records and other records (attendance, fire records, accident/incident books, inventory).
- Maintain high hygiene standards and safety procedures; carry out and record fire drills for a week every half term.
- Perform administrative duties, respond to emails, onboard new starters, and undertake routine tasks as required.
- Monitor and collate H.S.E logs and information.
- Act as a key holder for the pre-school.
- Undertake training and be responsible for role-specific requirements (e.g., Safeguarding, Health and Safety, First Aid).
- Participate in the organisation and running of outings, events and visits where appropriate.
- Ensure the safety of the pre-school environment and monitor safety of equipment, informing the Manager if attention is needed.
- Attend internal staff meetings as required.
Supervision/Management of People:
- Supervise all pre-school staff and ensure appropriate deployment, stimulation, and support for children.
- Ensure new staff receive formal induction and probationary review within the stated time scale; in Manager’s absence, carry out staff supervision; identify development needs and address them through training.
- Manage staff assigned for supply work or supervise students on placement.
- Foster positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders including children, parents, carers, Ofsted, feeder Primary Schools, other agencies, and Hampshire County Council staff.
- Build good working relationships with parents/carers to ensure effective communication of the pre-school and curriculum; maintain confidentiality as required by policy.
Qualifications
- At least a level 3 qualification in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
- Proven experience in a managerial role within an educational setting is highly desirable.
- SEND qualifications and experience would be an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of early childhood development principles and practices.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with children, parents, and staff.
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also demonstrating leadership capabilities.
- A genuine passion for educating young children and fostering their growth in a supportive environment.
- Paediatric first aid certificate.
- Enhanced DBS checks.
