To assist prepare and cook meals to Kingsbury High School Standards, requirement of the schools needs and in accordance with the agreed standard recipes ensuring the very highest food quality, service and presentation. Work closely with the Catering Manager, Assistant Catering Manager, CDP’s and other Kitchen Assistants in assigned kitchen to prepare all food requisitions for school canteen and hospitality. Assist all team members of the kitchen in order to maintain the flow of food production ensuring the compliance with all legislation including Health and Safety, Food Hygiene and Personal Hygiene. Maintain cleanliness and a safe working environment in all assigned areas, in accordance with kitchen management system. Ensures the smooth running of the section during the Kitchen Supervisors absence, developing your role and others around you.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To perform duties common to your position and other duties similar that may be assigned.
  • Work towards the necessary qualifications needed in order to progress through the kitchen ranks.
  • Attend all training sessions relative to developing your position within the kitchen.

FOOD MARGINS AND BUSINESS EFFICIENCY

  • Liaise with the Catering Manager, Assistant Catering Manager, CDP’s and other Kitchen Assistants on a daily basis to ensure productivity is met and a high quality of food is being produced at all times.
  • Ensure cost control policies are met at all times by monitoring and practicing portion control, recording wastage and production as set by the Catering Manager.
  • Comply with safe food and better business guidelines as required by the FSA on a daily basis, ensuring temperatures, deliveries and food labelling, food hygiene and health and safety records are all maintained and up to date using the correct methods.

DELIVERY OF FOOD SERVICE AND KITCHEN MANAGEMENT

  • Ensure a high level of customer service is met at all times and see that all food items for the school are prepared on time and meet quality standards and quantity requirements.
  • Ensure freshness and suitability of products used by the section is of reputable quality, not compromised and has sufficient shelf life.
  • All kitchen management files are up to date for assigned section and handed in daily to the CDP Supervisor.
  • Ensure all relevant food orders for each kitchen are collated and handed to CDP Supervisor at required time.
  • Assist the CDP Supervisor in providing accurate stock takes each week.
  • Assist in the daily distribution of food requisitions for the school’s catering department including hospitality, department functions, 6th Form Café and both T and K canteens.

HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • Wear PPE provided and as directed.
  • Wear full uniform at work and to ensure that it is clean and presentable at all times.
  • To ensure that the correct use of all materials, chemicals and equipment are used at all times, ensuring that safe systems of work are correctly followed.
  • Report all accidents and dangerous occurrences as directed.
  • Lead, follow, aid and assist in all policies and legislation including Health & Safety, Food Hygiene and Personal Hygiene.
