The post-holder is responsible to the Site Manager and Site Supervisor for the provision of site operations, maintenance and security services on School premises and to ensure a safe working environment. He or she may be required to work on either site of the School and on a shift system operating between 06:00 and 22:00. Responsibilities are carried out conscientiously, with regard for the efficiency of operation of the School and in accordance with Whole School policies and regulations (including Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Security and all Statutory regulations).

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • School Security
    • Unlock buildings in the morning and lock up at the end of the day as required by the shift pattern.
    • Secure entrances and exits and report potential security breaches.
    • Operate alarm systems where appropriate.
    • Monitor fire safety equipment and assist in carrying out fire drills.
    • Liaise with police, security and surveillance contractors.
    • Provide emergency access to the School site.
    • Carry out systematic internal and external checks on doors and windows as part of the evening closure process.
    • Monitor CCTV and other surveillance equipment to guard against vandalism and break-ins.
    • Maintain and decorate areas around the school.
  • Maintenance & Cleaning
    • Carry out minor repairs such as plumbing, changing light tubes or lamps, unblocking drains and repairing door furniture.
    • Report faulty equipment and other maintenance requirements to the appropriate person.
    • Operate heating plant, cooling and lighting systems.
    • Collect and assemble waste for collection.
    • Perform cleaning duties including graffiti removal, litter-picking and emergency cleaning.
    • Assist with routine client tasks related to premises-related contractors (cleaning and grounds maintenance).
    • Maintain a safe and clean external environment, including winter gritting of playgrounds and paths.
    • Ensure lights and other equipment are switched off when not required.
    • Maintain sports equipment and the grounds, removing litter.
  • Administrative & Support Tasks
    • Arrange chairs and tables for meetings, clear them afterwards and organise movement of furniture within the building.
    • Ensure teaching areas have sufficient chairs and desks, each with a waste bin.
    • Keep clocks showing the correct time and replace batteries routinely.
    • Keep curtains and blinds in good condition.
    • Carry out emergency cleaning of human deposits.
  • Store and Stock Management
    • Maintain orderly and secure storage of supplies and assist with receipt, distribution, collection and dispatch of goods.
  • Fire Safety & Evacuation
    • Understand fire safety regulations, Health & Safety regulations, emergency procedures and the rules for evacuating the buildings.
  • Porterage Duties
    • Move furniture, parcels, packages and perform light office removals.
  • Vehicle Maintenance & Driving
    • Administer maintenance of all School vehicles and carry out driving duties when required by the Site Manager.
  • School Lettings
    • Meet and greet clients, inform them of Health and Safety matters and how to contact the duty Site Officer; make a courtesy visit within the first half hour.
    • Conduct patrols every 30 minutes to ensure security and safety of hirers.
    • Contact the Site Manager or the Lettings Department if a hirer is in serious breach of the hiring agreement.
  • Enquiries & Record Keeping
    • Deal effectively and efficiently with enquiries from members of the public and staff regarding the School’s operation.
    • Maintain basic records as directed.
  • Uniform & PPE
    • Wear Personal Protection Equipment and uniform as issued by the School at all times during the working period.
  • Contractor Liaison
    • Liaise with outside contractors to ensure efficient delivery of contracted services.
  • Meetings & Training
    • Attend relevant meetings and participate in training and development activities and programmes as required, adopting changes in practice including those necessitated by technological advancement.
  • Work Hours
    • Work overtime according to the requirements of the School.
  • Other Duties
    • Perform other duties as may be required by the Site Services Manager or other designated Line Manager.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Undertake general duties, administration and any reasonable task as directed by the Line Manager or Headteacher and carry out such other tasks as are essential to fulfil the job’s core purpose.
  • Participate in training and development activities and programmes, and attend and participate in meetings, as required.
  • Be aware of and comply with policies and procedures, and report all concerns to an appropriate person, in respect of safeguarding and child protection; health, safety and security, confidentiality, and data protection.
  • Contribute to the school’s commitment to equality of access to opportunities to learn and develop for all students.
  • Undertake these duties within agreed school objectives, policies and procedures and promote the School’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
  • Present a positive impression of the school in all encounters with visitors or on school visits.
  • Respond calmly to the challenges of school life.
